I'm a sucker for authenticity. I had to paint this one because it catches her total, unselfconscious abandon when she laughs. It's the best kind of laughter, the kind we all experience sometimes. Don't we all wish we could feel like that more?
And there’s a Rule that paintings depicting laughter or smiles are always too trite or cute or hackneyed to be considered art. I disagree. Vehemently.
