One of the things I discovered in Mary Moquin’s excellent Masters Class was the incredible importance of plumbing the depths of my own experience. Also, because of the familiarity I’ve gained from painting so many callas, they make an excellent subject for experimention.
Add that experimental mindset to deeply felt emotions or difficult memories, and all kinds of images surface. Colors come into play in different ways; my brush makes different marks. More often than not, I surprise myself. And I always learn.
