The hardest thing about painting this was getting Johnny to stop laughing and smiling for a moment. I had to tell him to give me the look he would give if I had just burned someone’s dinner. Iit worked; he gave me that intense look I was hoping for; I was excited to work on it, but the other two paintings needed to come out first. It was actually a relief to start getting this one out onto the paper.
It's one of those coveted paintings that seemed to just pour out of my hand and arm onto the paper, so I was thrilled when it not only got into the Southern Watercolor Society's 2017 Juried Exhibit, but won a merchandise award! Soon afterward, it was juried into the Oak Ridge Art Center's 2017 Juried Exhibit, where it received the People's Choice Award.
