Apple A Day Series No. 26
7 x 7”
Watercolor with ink on Saunders Waterford 300# Rough
I love well-done white or near-white space in a painting, and am quite unapologetic about it. It just isn't easy to pull off. Once again, John Salminen's workshop has given me a way to at least try it. Instead of finding my 20% white shape running through the painting, I found my 20% dark shape and hung onto my whites for dear life. Because the Apple has such a lovely, oriental shape, I decided to work the Japanese national and naval flags' rising sun into it, too. It was great fun and is a favorite.
