Watercolor on Saunders Waterford paper
I’ve lived in six states during my adult life and left behind friends--dear ones--every time I moved. It never gets any easier. After two years on Cape Cod, I thought we’d found a permanent home. So when my husband decided to leave Massachusetts when he retired, the emotions came hard and fast. I understood the whys and wherefores, I even agreed. But it hurt.
My response? Paint. The feelings poured onto the paper, not just the grief for this move, but all the moves. The cries, the tears, the rending of garments must occur because without them, we cannot move on from the loss. And there, in the midst of each loss, we find the strength and the love to say it: “Goodbye.”
