This is my first portrait of Anna. She was young in the photo her father showed me, yet very much herself, which I adore. I couldn’t help it; I asked him if she would sit for a photo shoot. They both said yes. During the shoot it became clear: she was at that incredibly confusing point of knowing she’s a woman, being certain she’s adult, yet still uncertain as to what that meant. There’s always so much child on womanhood’s edge, and she’d not quite stepped over that line. I had to catch that.
